During an interview with Esquire, Matt Reeves revealed that the studio sent him the script that Ben Affleck co-wrote with Geoff Johns, and while he thought it was "a totally valid version of the movie," it just wasn't his personal story. of Batman, which the director was interested in telling.

"He was very animated by the action. He was very attached to the DCEU, with other notable characters from other films and other comics sticking out. But I knew after reading it that this particular script wasn't the way I wanted to do my Batman, ”Reeves explained. 

We know that Ben Affleck's film would have pitted The Dark Knight against Deathstroke, but now comes the confirmation that it would have brought other members of the Justice League to the stage as well. Matt Reeves admitted that he told Warner Bros that he was not the right man for the job, explaining the direction in which he would have preferred to take the character.

"I told them that there have been so many great movies, but if I had to do that, I would have to make it personal, so I could understand what I was going to do with it, so I know where to put the camera, so I know what to say to the actors. , so you know what the story should be. This play, I told them, pointing to the script, is an absolutely valid and exciting story. It's almost a James Bond movie, but it wasn't something I felt attached enough to. "
