Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continues its global box office climb!
The two biggest box office receipts "in the pandemic era" now belong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Spider-Man: No Way Home has broken all box office records since its release in December 2021, and now boasts one of the biggest blockbusters in history (sixth on the list of highest-grossing films ever). Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has not yet reached these heights, but it has become the second-biggest film at the box office since 2020. It has also surpassed this year's other big blockbuster in cinecomics: The Batman.
This weekend, the Doctor Strange sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch surpassed $ 800 million at the worldwide box office. Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $ 1.89 billion. The weekend saw Sam Raimi's new film overtake The Batman (which grossed 768.5 million) and No Time to Die (774.3 million), two other big blockbusters in post-closing cinema due to COVID.
The success of the two Marvel films can also be found in the fact that they both conceal many stellar cameos within them, which has certainly helped to stimulate the enthusiasm of fans. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will remain in theaters for a while yet, but the arrival of more blockbusters over the next two weeks will turn his box office climb in search of the billion dollars into an even more difficult challenge!
