Rowling in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, whose releases have produced diminishing profits given the decline in fan interest after criticism and boycott attempts against Rowling, ended up in the eye of the storm for her transphobic statements.
The latest installment of the franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, debuted in April and grossed 405.1 million globally. It is unclear whether the studio will move forward with the two missing films to complete the planned five-film span.
In the years following Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling became a controversial figure and was accused of transphobia. Star Daniel Radcliffe was among those who criticized her positions by offending support for the trans community in light of Rowling's tweets and comments.
