"We haven't had a Superman movie in nearly 13 years, and we haven't had a Harry Potter movie in 15 years. The DC movies and the Harry Potter films have been some of the most profitable for Warner in the past 25 years. expand our franchises. House of the Dragon is a great example. But even with The Lord of the Rings, we still have the rights to make new films in the franchise, "said Zaslav.
The Lord of the Rings: past, present, and future
Warner has held the rights to Tolkien's novels since the late 1990s and brought the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit into a trilogy directed by Peter Jackson to the big screen. Warner is currently working on an animated film called The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, coming to theaters in 2024.
The project was realized thanks to a collaboration between New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Animation and the story told on the big screen will be set two centuries before the events narrated in the film The Hobbit.
