Marvel acknowledges that they are making too many TV series

Producing and launching too many series productions for Disney+ makes them not stand out or do not fulfill their mission, and this is something that Kevin Feige acknowledges

If there's one thing we've seen in the last two or three years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it's that there are more and more yearly productions, either on film or, more recently, on television. And it is precisely the MCU series that are shining the least, so Marvel will do less.

This has been recognized by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, in an extensive interview with Entertainment Weekly. Feige says that with so many products available, it's harder to get everything right. He clearly wouldn't mean it literally, but he refers to the quality of that content and, above all, how meaningful it is to the audience and fans of the MCU. According to Feige:

“I think one of the powerful aspects of being at Marvel Studios is that these movies and shows hit the mark in style, development, and spirit.

It's harder to get it right when there's so much product available and so much “content”, as they say, which is a word I hate. [Laughs] But we want Marvel Studios and MCU projects to really stand out. So people will see that we get there as we move into Phases 5 and 6. The pace at which we introduce the Disney+ series will change so that each one can have a chance to shine.”

Therefore, the solution is obvious. When asked if his words mean that they are going to distance the premieres of the series more or if it means that they will make fewer series, Feige replied: "Both things, it seems to me." And it is understandable. In the last two years, we have seen the premiere of multiple MCU productions for Disney +, and none have been particularly memorable. In fact, series like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Moon Knight have been disappointing, while others have left a better impression on fans, such as Loki, WandaVision, and Hawkeye.

Not all series are going to be successful, it is true, but it is also a reality that the excessive volume of these productions means that they do not have a real impact on the cinematographic universe, which is something Marvel has been working on very well for years. The idea of fewer series but more relevant and impressive sounds attractive, and it is something that we will apparently begin to see from this new Phase 5 which has just started with Ant-Man 3. Less is more.
