Oppenheimer is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most anticipated feature films of 2023: the film, directed by the acclaimed Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception), represents the return to the big screen of the acclaimed English filmmaker after Tenet, released in 2020, which nonetheless represented a great success for the British author. In particular, the realization is inspired by the biography of the creator of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or American Prometheus, written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
To embody the brilliant and tormented scientist, Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders, The wind that shakes the grass), Nolan's fetish actor who appeared in his other films such as Batman Begins, Inception, Dunkirk, and others. Having said that, one of the actors in Oppenheimer's cast, namely Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Beautiful Creatures – The sixteenth moon), in a mysterious role, strongly wanted to praise Nolan himself, also speaking of the atmosphere on the set, in a recent interview for The Hollywood Reporter (via Screen Rant).
Oppenheimer was just amazing. I've had a few experiences where I've gotten to work for directors like that, and it's been so exciting just because of the way people feel on set all day. It's a different quality. Everyone is super focused. They are giving their best. They are honored to be part of it and you feel in the hands of this master. All of my scenes are with Robert Downey Jr. and we've developed a really good friendship.
Yes, the level of specificity and detail and control that [Nolan] has on set and his total dogged commitment to it all is so inspiring. He's not afraid to ask that each piece be how he wants it to be, which was really great. It's very small. There are no stunt doubles. There is no fat on the bone. This is the cinematic experience that everyone has. People don't have big fancy trailers and he controls every aspect of that set to his liking. And it's a great, great feeling to be a part of. When you surrender to someone's vision and simply trust it, it makes a big difference.
We remind you that Oppenheimer will arrive in cinemas on July 21, 2023, with the distribution of Universal Pictures and production of Universal Pictures.
