Squid Game: The Challenge, the contestants reveal: "the conditions were absolutely inhumane"
Despite the news, Netflix denied the severity of the facts, instead assuring that the competitors did not suffer serious injuries. Yet, according to Variety magazine, which was able to get in touch with 3 competitors of the reality show, the conditions were even worse than initially leaked. According to the contestants interviewed, who wished to remain anonymous, all the contestants were woken up at 3:30 in the morning to then be transferred (a two-hour journey) to the filming location – a former Royal Air Force hanger. All with the ban on conversing with each other. Before filming began, they were given the “Squid Game” uniform, along with two pairs of undergarments, socks, hand, and foot warmers, and jackets. All this was then followed by a quick lunch.
However, as soon as filming began, the contestants were asked to leave their jackets and coats to remain only in the game suit, so that their number was visible. According to the anonymous contestants, although the game was supposed to last about two hours, it stretched for hours and hours, even reaching seven hours in line. One of the contestants said: "It's not like we signed up for Survivor or Naked Ones." “The conditions were truly inhumane, and it had nothing to do with the game,” they revealed.
According to reports, numerous contestants have passed out or collapsed due to freezing temperatures, as well as having to stand still for extended periods of time. According to one of the anonymous contestants, at least four contestants passed out.
“After the second time the song had been played, I saw to my left a girl staggering. And then she fell, and there was a sound of her hitting her head on the ground,” one of the contestants revealed. “After that, a person on the mic told us to stay put because the game wasn't over. And after that, people were just dropping like flies."
According to the anonymous competitors, the paramedics were called at least 11 times, before it was decided to take "relaxation breaks", where they could stretch their limbs, without however moving their feet from the assigned position. Another of the anonymous contestants reported: “Imagine playing Red Light, Green Light for six hours straight. What game is that? It's not a game anymore. The fun is gone. Don't tell people to sit still in freezing temperatures with just a suit and two pairs of socks on."
