John Wick 4 has created a record opening weekend at the box office. The film, which premiered in theaters on March 24, is the fourth installment of Keanu Reeves' action-hero, who made his action-hero debut in the 2014 original film John Wick. That first chapter chronicled the retired killer seeking vengeance for the death of his dog and the theft of his car, a mission that has since taken audiences into a massive, sprawling world of gun-toting mayhem.

According to Deadline, the opening weekend for John Wick 4 is hovering at a staggering $73.5 million. This is the franchise's best opening, but also the highest opening for an R-rated film since Bad Boys for Life in 2020, making it the 14th-best film of all time for that category of works. R-rated releases typically have smaller audiences, and PG-13 titles tend to get many higher-grossing titles. However, both John Wick 4 and the R-rated Scream VI are both earning significant profits.

This could indicate that more adults are returning to theaters in recent months. This is great news for upcoming new projects in the John Wick universe, which includes the TV spin-off The Continental and Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. If the latter will focus on telling the story of the lethal assassin already seen in John Wick 3: Parabellum, the second will tell the origins of the hotel and all its mysteries. In the meantime, it is possible to enjoy John Wick 4, currently in theaters. In Italy, in its first four days at the box office, the film earned just over two million euros.
