Star Wars: The Acolyte, Surprise Announcement: An Important Character Will Make His Live-Action Debut!

The surprise announcement of an addition to the cast of Star Wars: The Acolyte confirms the live-action debut of a major character in the franchise.

During the Star Wars Celebration - which is taking place in London - a surprise announcement was made regarding the cast of Star Wars: The Acolyte, the highly anticipated live-action series set a century before the events of The Phantom Menace, during the end of the High Republic era. Leslye Headland, executive producer and creator of the Disney+ series, announced important news for the future of the franchise during the Star Wars: The High Republic panel. 

Actress Rebecca Henderson took the stage. Headland then announced that Henderson will play Vernestra Rwoh, a Jedi hero who appears in the High Republic era, in Star Wars: The Acolyte. Vernestra Rwoh first appeared in Charles Soule's novel Star Wars: Light of the Jedi. Since then she has also appeared in Marvel's The High Republic comic series and several other novels in the saga, including A Test of Courage, The Rising Storm, Race to Crashpoint Tower, and Out of the Shadows. Rwoh is the former padawan of the great Jedi Stellan Gios and obtained the rank of Jedi Knight at the age of 15, making him the youngest Jedi Knight in recent years.

The cast of the series also includes Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-Jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Dean -Charles Chapman, Charlie Barnett, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva, and Jodie Turner-Smith. According to Lucasfilm's official description, The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and emerging powers of the dark side, in the last days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with his Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they face are more sinister than they anticipated.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is currently filming. It will debut on Disney+ in 2024.
