Some new details about The Little Mermaid's soundtrack indicate that Disney's live-action remake may change a major plot point from the classic 1989 animated film. The film starring Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King will have some of the original songs by Alan Menken updated to modern times. Let's talk about songs like Baciala and Triste anima sola, whose lyrics have been modified to make clear the consent of the protagonist. “There are some lyrical changes because people have become very sensitive to the idea that Prince Eric was going to, in some way, force Ariel,” Menken said in an interview with Vanity Fair.

Alan Menken, who along with Howard Ashman scored the original animated film, worked with Lin-Manuel Miranda to update the lyrics for the live-action adaptation. In the scene where there is the song Kiss Her, Prince Eric is encouraged to kiss Ariel, who at this moment no longer has a voice. Even Ursula's song Triste anima sola has a line that has been revised, the one in which Ursula says: “Men don't like gossip. They don't like to hear bla bla bla! On earth, it goes like this and the ladies manage to avoid talking a little more. The conversation has no effect on the men, the gentleman avoids it if he can. However, they fall in love with the one who knows how to keep silent, the woman who is a little reluctant will find her”.

Added Menken, "We also made revisions to Sad Soul in regards to lines that might somehow hint to girls that they shouldn't be talking out of turn, even though Ursula is clearly manipulating Ariel into giving up her voice." The Little Mermaid will arrive in Italian cinemas on May 24, 2023, distributed by The Walt Disney Company Italia. The cast of the film – directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by David Magee – includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Javier Bardem as King Triton, along with Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Noma Dumezweni.
