Filming will begin this summer on the Ocean's Eleven spin-off, a project starring Margot Robbie. According to Production List, shooting on the film will begin later this month, setting the stage for a new story featuring some of the greatest thieves in the world. There aren't many details on what the film will be about right now, but it's been confirmed that Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie will star in it, bringing their chemistry to a completely different project than the one they've previously worked on.
In addition to that, it appears the film will serve as a prequel to the already established franchise and not be a reboot that takes place in a different world. That means the 2001 classic starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts will still take place at some point in continuity after the prequel, and it remains to be seen whether the upcoming film will directly tie into later events. There's still the possibility that this story is unrelated to what came before while remaining part of the continuity, but that will depend on what Warner Bros. is planning for the franchise's future.
The franchise was last seen on the big screen in 2018's Ocean's 8, the installment in which Sandra Bullock led a team that included only women in her ranks. The plan was simple: infiltrate the Met Gala and steal a very expensive necklace. The chemistry between the cast brought the film a comfortable $297 at the worldwide box office, giving the studio the confidence to move forward with the series. However, it would take some time for Warner Bros. to find a new story they felt excited about.
