Rifle Club: Recently, many suspense and crime thrillers and crime investigation dramas from Malayalam have been gaining popularity not only on OTT but also in theaters. In this context, the Malayalam black comedy action thriller ''Rifle Club'', came out late last year. This film, which was released in Kerala on December 19 as a Christmas gift, was a great success at the box office. Although it was produced on a low-budget basis, it surprised everyone by collecting around Rs. 30 crores. Now Netflix has made such a film available on OTT.
Actors like Vijaya Raghavan, Dileesh Pothan, 'Hrudayam' fame Darshana Rajendran, and Unnimaya Prasad, who were introduced to Telugu audiences through OTTs, played lead roles in the film 'Rifle Club'. Vaani Vishwanath, who played the heroine in Tollywood in the 90s, played a key role. Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap, who has been making waves as an actor in recent times, also appeared in the film. This is his Malayalam debut movie. It was directed by Aashiq Abu. The film, which has been streaming since Thursday, is getting a good response from the OTT audience.
The story is: A couple accidentally kills the son of underworld don Dayanand Bare (Anurag Kashyap) in a hotel in Mangalore. Upon learning that they have killed the son of the extremely cruel Dayanand, the couple flees to Kerala to save their lives. They take refuge in a remote rifle club located in the hills of Wayanad. The club is run by three people who are experts in gun firing.
The film's hero Shahjahan already joins the club to learn about hunting for his upcoming film. Meanwhile, Dayanand, learning that the people who killed his son are under the protection of the Rifle Club, goes to Kerala with his gang to take revenge. What did Dayanand do after going there? What decision did the members take to protect the honor of their club? What situations did they face in stopping the Don? What finally happened? You have to watch this movie to know.
Different from regular action thrillers, director Ashiq Abu has made 'Rifle Club' with a completely fictional story in the style of a dark comedy thriller. The Western-style backdrop and gun-firing episodes give the audience a new experience and provide good entertainment. Although many characters appear on the screen, the specialty of this movie is that each character has enough importance.
The simple story has been made to impress throughout. Although it takes some time to introduce the characters, it progresses interestingly after going into the story. Night effects, and rifle fight scenes seem new. Cinematography, color grading, and background score stand out as special attractions.
Actually, such movies are made more in Hollywood, but we don't get many Western-style movies. Many directors like Karthik Subbaraju try making that style from time to time. Now the movie ''Rifle Club'' directed by Aashiq Abu gives a new experience to the audience. I don't know if people will like these kinds of movies if they are made in Telugu, but... they are watching it well on Netflix OTT. Since it is streaming in other languages besides Malayalam and Telugu... I must say that this movie is the best suggestion to watch on OTT this weekend.
