Dark Movie Review: Generally, science fiction genre movies .. horror movies arouse more interest among the audience. However, there is no need to mention the level of audience enthusiasm for a movie made by combining these two genres. One such Tamil movie is 'Black'. This movie was released on October 11th last year and later came to OTT. Now this movie is also available in Telugu on Amazon Prime under the title 'Dark'.
Dark Movie Story:
This story starts in Chennai in 1964 and then comes to the present time. In 1964, both Lalitha and Ganesh fell in love. Manohar (Vivek Prasanna), who has set his heart on Lalitha, becomes furious. According to a plan, he takes both of them to the 'Beach House'. There, Manohar decides to kill both of them. However, before he can kill them, both of them are brutally murdered. Manohar is shocked by this.
Expensive villas are now built in the place where the 'beach house' used to be. Vasant (Jeeva) and Aranya (Priya Bhavani Shankar) buy a villa. They go to that villa, which is far from the city, to have fun for two days.
No one else stays in the villa. So they both think that it is a good place for their solitude. Those who go there feel like someone is secretly watching them. They have strange experiences in that villa.
Vasant and Aranya are surprised to see the lights on in another villa in the line opposite their villa. When they call the watchman, he tells them that no one has stayed in that villa. So Vasant and Aranya go to see who is in that house. What will happen then? What will they know about the 'dark place' there? Will they get out of there? This is the story.
Dark Movie Analysis:
The film 'Dark' is based on an English film. The film continues with the story of a husband and wife who go to their new villa for fun and experience some terrifying experiences. The first part is about the couple's attempt to understand the problem and get out of there, and the second half is about the audience.
Although there are a dozen characters in the film, 90 percent of the story revolves around just two main characters. Usually, horror thriller stories take place in a villa. This story also revolves around a villa. However, this story is different. Its style is different. Here, the story is intertwined with science fiction. The novelty of the story keeps the audience engaged until the end.
While it is a challenge to explain the scientific aspect of this story understandably, it is another challenge to make the screenplay interesting. The director has succeeded in completing this difficult task. 90 percent of the story is set in the same location between two characters. Some scenes are repeated. However, the reason why it is not boring is the interesting point in the story.
Actors Performance:
The story is the main strength of this film. The director's performance in making the difficult point understandable is impressive. The performances of Jeeva and Priya Bhavani Shankar, who played those roles, bring the audience closer to reality. The way the director has linked the story with the full moon nights and conducted the story in the moonlight is the highlight.
Gokul Benoy's photography is the main strength of this film. The night effect is the filming of the moonlight nights. It gives a good feel. The music provided by Sam CS is another special attraction of this film. The background music goes along with the story so that the audience travels. Philomin Raj's editing is good.
Conclusion:
Usually, touching on the subject of science fiction means planning a range of graphics. But this is a story that has proven that you can keep the audience engaged from start to finish without having to worry about graphics. After watching the film, you will understand why this film, made with just 5 crores, has earned 50 crores.
